The Label
3WLABEL
3WLABEL is a sustainable fashion brand created for women who care about the planet’s finite resources. The name, 3WLABEL reflects the rationale behind the brand’s promise. It transforms the three R’s, Reuse, Redesign, and Return, into 3 W’s: Waste to Resource, Wearables, and Women Empowerment.
The company partners with local manufacturers and uses high-quality deadstock to produce limited-edition garments, which are sold online and on-demand. Each collection is carefully curated by the founders and features a guest designer. All garments are seasonless. Their names are given in honor of the women who contributed to their creation.
Waste in the garment Industry
Worldwide, an estimated 92 million tonnes of textile waste are generated annually. In fact, enough clothes to fill a garbage truck end up in landfills every second. Textile waste comprises both pre-consumer waste and post-consumer discards. Romania is home to more than 4,000 garment manufacturers. Pre-consumer waste is the by-product of manufacturing and includes leftover fabrics from sampling, overruns from production, and order cancellations. By repurposing deadstock as raw materials, 3WLABEL ensures that their fabrics avoid landfills and retain the highest possible value.
Logo
The thin-to-thick lines suggest the transformation of waste fabric into garments.
The reuse of the same shape represents both the 3 and the W characters and highlights the sustainable approach of the brand. The clean curves suggest the quality of the fabrics, while the sharp cuts suggest the timeless design approach
The Founders
Irina Moreno is an art consultant with an MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London. Her PhD research at De Montfort University, Leicester focuses on fashion products made from pre-consumer textile waste. Zuzana Mandic is a fashion and design consultant. She is Henley Business School alumna and has postgraduate qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. She authored a market study on the potential of the Czech fashion sector in 2018.
The world slowed down in 2020. During lockdown in Bucharest, conversations flowed between founders Irina Moreno and Zuzana Mandic. Two months into their discussions on deadstock waste, they reached out to Romanian clothing manufacturers to develop local partnerships and establish 3WLABEL.
A year later, the brand was born.
For founders Irina Moreno and Zuzana Mandic, 2021 was a month of milestones. Irina embarked on her PhD journey at De Montfort University in Leicester, while Zuzana welcomed her first child.
Combining their respective strengths in art and business, the founders envisioned a unique take on sustainable fashion.
